This downtown Detroit mural features three generations of women and local children who modeled for the artist. Katherine was awarded this mural through a competition with hundreds of entries. Painted on Corelite Panels with a special framing system, the mural graces the side of Whole Foods on busy Mack Avenue. Painting on aluminum eliminates most of the elements that cause an exterior mural to age, crack and peel, as aluminum does not contract and expand with weather. Installed in 2011, the mural is as vibrant today as when the store was opened. The artist’s unique technique of indirect painting created the vibrant appearance of the paint. The effect is created by many overlapping layers of transparent colors. A final UV resistant coating was applied to maintain the mural's colors over many years.
