ABOUT:
30" organically shaped fiber sculpture mounted on 1/2" stained and sealed wood backing. Looks like a living wall or moss pebble, but it doesn't need water! The felt that I use for my work is acrylic felt that is made from recycled plastic water bottles! Barnacles areas are cast plaster from my own molds.

Comes with hanging hardware included (hardware is not pre-attached so that you can turn the piece to be landscape or portrait depending on your space).

CARE:
Because these pieces are made primarily from acrylic felt, they do not attract dust as easily as their wool counterparts (and no moths!). Each felt section is stapled or anchored using finishing nails through the wood backing. This means that you can use a small handheld vacuum or can of air to dust the piece when necessary. After dusting the piece, feel free to fluff!
** Please never vacuum, brush or rustle areas with sculptural details. These include areas that are beaded, plaster, clay, resin and mesh. These sections are delicate and should not be handled roughly.

"What is soft is strong."

Kate Leibrand is an interdisciplinary artist living in Philadelphia, working with large scale fibers since 2013. Using acrylic felt, made from recycled plastic water bottles, her labor-intensive process includes cutting, painting, folding, stitching, and tacking thousands of fabric elements onto a wood backing. The dense mass of fabric forms are inspired by her interest in growths of all kinds, drawing inspiration from undulating forms in nature as well as the body. Leibrand's interests in dichotomies such as inside/outside, hidden/exposed, and micro/macro, lead her to incorporate intimate details in all of her work, as moments of surprise and wonder for the viewer to find.
