AKIKO TSUJI

San Francisco, CA

"Specializes in creating sculptural ceramic objects using various hand-building techniques."
I started making ceramics in 2012 after more than 15 years of working in a NY brand, visual and design consultation studio. My hand-built ceramic work focuses on two spectrums - one, the Japanese wabisabi inspired pieces which exudes the quality of transience, and the other, a minimal approach that is an interpretation of nature and study of shapes and forms.
My commissioned work includes a collection for Maman NYC, Chillhouse NYC, 97 Crosby NYC, Paloma Wool Madrid, White is Good Beijing, Virgil Normal LA, Departamento LA, Seldom Seen SF, Voyager SF & LA, Tekuno Tea Shop SF, as well custom pieces for private collectors. I have held a month-long pop-up shop at Voyager SF in 2019 where I showcased ceramics and fashion as well as a pop-up event of ceramic works at Seldom Seen SF in 2018. In addition I have wholesaled for Steven Alan US between 2014-2016 and many of my ceramic works were featured in publications such as W Magazine Culture, Bloomberg Businessweek, Steven Alan The Designer Edit, Paloma Wool, Coastal Living and more. I am also a fashion designer specializing in innovative draping. In 2018 I published the book 'Vase and Flower’ which showcases my vases in combination with ikebana flower artists from around the globe.
