My art explores the human interaction with the natural world, and the transient moments that provide clarity and pause. As an abstract landscape painter, I have always sought to portray how experiencing a landscape feels rather than how it looks. When I first flew in an airplane as a teenager, I was mesmerized by the way the world beneath me appeared. From the vantage point of the plane’s window, the shapes and terrain were rhythmically dancing and interacting with the sun’s light. These remembrances inform my process-based painting series called “Brainscapes” where literal references to landscapes are removed and transparent layering of light, color, and movement work together to elicit a visceral response. For me, these paintings are evocative of the fleeting moments of awe experienced while in the presence of nature.
