'Winding Roads', 2024

This piece is made from a single driftwood piece gathered from the Sacandaga River in Upstate New York. It's a uniquely arched piece, with carved channels and waves that are revealed best in side light. The wire ‘stitching’ forming the hanger is done using century-old wire gathered from the field lines of my farmstead.

The rust of the antique wire and character of history blends well with the driftwood. It is done by hand, with heart. The driftwood has gone through my usual process of carving, sanding and burnishing, while still leaving natural, raw details. The surface is finished by hand burnishing only.

Measures approx. 28” x 6” x 5”. A loop hanger is on back.

I hope this piece brings joy into your space.

• These pieces are all one of a kind and completely done by myself, from collecting the driftwood in Upstate New York, to carving, sanding, burnishing, wiring, and lastly packing it up to ship to you!

• These pieces are intended for indoor use. The wood has been naturally dried, shaped, and burnished to gently achieve its condition. Exposing it to the elements and/or significant moisture may cause damage.

• Wild, refined, sustainably made. By hand, with heart.

wild & refined driftwoodwork from the waters of Upstate New York

1 part woodworker, and 1 part river lover, perhaps best explains how these sculptural driftwood pieces began. My love of creating pieces by hand and passion for using natural materials and a sustainable practice has developed this method of gathering driftwood from the river I grew up on, then drying, scraping, carving, sanding, burnishing the wood, all by hand. The wood is collected and worked on in my studio in Upstate NY.
