This sculpture was designed for the Transit Center in Garland, Texas, a suburb of Dallas along the “LBJ” freeway. The sculpture’s form was inspired by the history of Garland and this transit-oriented site. Garland has a significant record of wind and tornado events, and it also has a heritage of a strong performing arts community, including a long-standing symphony orchestra. The design, reminiscent of a symphony harp, is intended to represent the beneficial aspects of Garland’s strong winds.
The sculpture includes long stainless steel tubes that are activated by these winds. Like an arrangement of end-blown flutes, this sound sculpture celebrates the positive aspects of Garland’s heritage.
