36 x 48 x 3" deep acrylic on wood panel
When we think of animals having relationships with flowers, we naturally think of pollinators. While cardinals are not pollinators, they depend on flowers not only to provide the sturdy seeds and nuts they eat but to feed the insects including pollinators, that they feed on. They also rely on flowers to propagate the plants they use for nesting and shelter. This cardinal is composed of imagery of flowers it depends on including sunflower, purple majesty millet, safflower, hackberry, nasturtium, honeysuckle, rose, and red trumpet flower.
The 3" deep sides on all my works are a continuation of the painting. This makes the painting viewable from all perspectives. Framing is not necessary.
