Blanket Textile design for HK studio, a Johannesburg based interior Design studio, for Kruger Shalati, a luxury African bush lodge built on a train bridge overlooking the Sabie River.
The blanket takes inspiration from the traditional Seanamarena blanket of the Basotho People, A traditional blanket given away as a gift during matrimonial ceremony. The Shalati Blanket is more than just a blanket, it is designed with the intention to unite people coming from various lands, and places, it is a blanket that embraces the old whilst celebrating the present and the future. The new train lodge in many ways has united people in it’s construction from the various people who have made building this train and bringing it into reality, to the craftsmanship of the many artisans who have considered every design element and to the community who are part of it and who’s lives will be changed from the economic growth and stability that this train lodge will bring.
