One never knows how these things happen, but the thin line of grain that separates the dark brown walnut color from the lighter sapwood on this piece really stands out, especially in bright light, where it takes on an almost copper color. Such bonuses often surprise me as they aren’t obvious at all until some finish goes on. Speaking of finish, I lost count of the number of thin coats of shellac I rubbed into this piece in pursuit of that glossy finish.

Woodturned pieces from solid Northeast woods. Some pieces with color, some natural, all unique.

I turn locally sourced wood into mostly decorative pieces, with a particular focus on color and finish. I've been at it for over 20 years. I make vessels, bowls, candlesticks, and boxes, but also more utilitarian things like pepper mills, rolling pins, and wine coasters. I also make what I've dubbed "Holiday Trees," which are turned from hardwood and decorated in festive holiday colors.
