30” x 48” | Acrylic on canvas
The most important step I take in order for my creativity to exist is to be kind to myself.
For example: last night I let myself paint on this 30” x 48” canvas without a plan. And I didn’t think a single negative thought when it didn’t look that great, because 1. I can always keep working on it until I’m happy with how it looks (which I did - this is the finished product), and, most importantly, 2. who cares. The point that night wasn’t to make something that looked good.
The point was that my hands and mind and heart missed working together.
The point was to sit down in front of a canvas and begin seeing something in my mind.
The point was to carefully choose from the paint tubes I know so well and still be surprised at the colors that they form.
The point was to sit in the quiet and let my hands and mind go where they want to.
The point was to use the surprisingly large canvas, my paint, and my time in a productive and sensible way, and I think being creative is productive and sensible.
