The Jungle Rug fuses ideas of fragile ecology with those of fragile civilization. The rug itself tells the story of a dying jaguar, whose spirit leaves it’s body after death and returns to the jungle. This passing is represented by the movement of the jaguar’s spots from it’s own body to the jungle floor surrounding it. The form of the jaguar itself, and the specific spot pattern, come from a combination of Mayan, Aztec, and early colonial references, which in themselves also represent a passing of spirit from pre-hispanic civilization to that of it’s usurpers.
Hand tufed in New Zealand wool and premium acrylic shag, the rug is impeccably hand-carved.
