This large scale 52" x 49" handwoven tapestry weaving is constructed from all natural materials, mostly sourced within our Fibershed system and has a lot of custom elements that are one of a kind.
She is hung using my Walnut colored leather on a beam of solid walnut wood, custom designed & milled specifically for this piece, locally in Rohnert Park, CA. The weaving middle, the fluffy part, is constructed from Rambouillet sheep wool roving, Carbon & Climate Beneficial Wool from Cedarville, Ca.
The bordering, flat white, is Shoestring sized Felted Roving from Australian Corriedale Wool, Hand-felted in Ukiah, CA. The sheep that provided this wool are from a target grazing company based in Lake County, CA. This company supports the usage of sheep grazing to minimize equipment usage on local orchards and wineries. This wool is considered salvaged as it would have otherwise been discarded due to vegetable matter and short staple.
The fringe is Hand-Spun by the wives & mothers of alpaca shepherds in the Andes Mountains of Peru, 50% Highland Wool / 50% Superfine Alpaca with small pieces of earthy vegetable matter and provides a harmonious hue with the Shoestring Felted Roving. Not only is this fiber the perfect material for a fringe detail, it is also ethically sourced.
Under the fringe you will find a large bordering piece of the same leather that she hangs from. All my leathers are by-product of the beef industry and are sourced from a local small business.
