The Black Dome - Vases & Vessels

Price from $500 to $2,400

Creation: minimum 2 weeks

Vessel is a part of the Personal Forecast series. Hiding piece. The idea of designing such objects came to me during last year's hike when I found natural clay in the Slovak forest. I started from forms that mostly remain natural ground. But then I went to mix of wheel-thrown and hand-built techniques to objects with a styled ground texture on it.

The object has two parts. I call it dome construction. One part is a cup with a simple form. For water. It is hidden in a Dome part which is main for the object where plant/flower is placed. On the top of the Dome part is ground-stylized texture.

Dome. The sculptural dome has rough texture because of small chamotte stones in a clay body. Can be used as a vase for dry flowers.

Cup. Cup is suitable for liquids and can be also used separately.

Size. Dome height 16 cm, width 19 cm; cup height 10.5 cm, width 5,5 cm.

21-27 August / London - "Highlight" exhibition in Boomer Gallery

ZHENI is a ceramic design studio. Started my professional career as an architect and later as an interior designer, I continue to work with space now by placing my objects in it. Mostly I work with clay as with one of the ancient and natural material human worked with. The perception of the way material got through the thousands of years in different cultures all around the globe gives me a dose of inspiration. Also, I’m inspired by brutalist architecture and contemporary urban and landscape design. Paying attention to relationships between human and nature on the city site, making connections between different natural phenomenas give me an opportunity to achieve unobvious results during the design process. My works may be characterized by the purity of form, naturalness, and minimalism in colors. The design method can be described as a practice-led exploration of harmony between form, texture and natural color of the material to create sculptural and functional objects hand-made and fired in Studio in Bratislava.
