This piece, Tether, deals with my relationship with my sister. There's something about being a sister that intrinsically tethers you to other women, I think. She was my first friend and first guide through so much of life. She was a safe place when I was too embarrassed or ashamed to ask mom for help and the voice of reason I needed when I was the problem in my own life. My sister is my confidante, competitor, and mirror for my hard truths. In addition to being a safe place to land, she is a lens through which I've gained clarity on my relationships with women, both good and bad.
The works in the Total Woman series explore all sides of my relationships with femininity, women, and the females in my life that have shaped me, in ways positive and negative. In this series I use wallpaper from my childhood home as a placeholder for the personal work I've done exploring my first examples of women, the power of environment in formation of behaviors, and how I approached becoming a mother to a girl myself.
