Swimming with Diamonds is an original painting on canvas
I use a variety of materials which enable me to make a broad range of marks; acrylic paint, pencils, crayon and spray paint. The use of metallic paint enables me to work with reflected light.
I work organically, often without a clear destination in mind, creating deliberate imperfections. Adding layer upon layer of abstract marks and scratches, colour and depth, imbuing the work with life and energy, gently vibrating in the vast shimmering pools of colour.
Part of my goal is to create a personal language of marks and gestures, that feel both personal but also universal. An intimate hand writing of abstraction.
I aim to create a harmonious space, both energetic but also meditative.
The paintings have an awareness of their own edges and boundaries. They glimmer and define, and ultimately hold their space firmly and gently.
I have used the phrase 'glass house' in some of the titles. I was drawn to this image because of the balance of strength and fragility, and felt the metaphor captured that perfectly.
