Large scale knitted work made from silk, cotton, ribbon, rope, wool and wire. Variable dimensions 10ft x 10ft and hung away from the wall at varying degrees to express the shadows and light and space. My textile / soft sculptural works have been displayed both indoors and outside

My work as a polymedia artist allows me to interact with materials to produce a new unseen world. My soft sculptures and particularly my knitted pieces have to do with -on one level women’s work, repetition, craft- and on another level the stitching together of memories , emotions, past and future lives. The creation of webs and interconnection between each of us, the tapestries of a life, the changing landscapes as we fly past them.

We have inner spiritual states of peaceful perfection but we also live in the ‘outer’ world of desires, agitation, conflict and unrest. How do we bridge these two states of being to find a balance, peace, and happiness ? I am interested in physical structures like bridges that connect our inner spirit and our outer social interactions. Structures that bind elements together, hide or protect like armor, or they can mark territory and create boundaries, like fences, walls, markers. Both the infinitely small unseen world of atoms and molecules and the infinitely large movement of planets and universes are at play creating fields of energy and vibration. All of these things feel as if they are woven together, interrelated , interconnected - like bridges from one side of the river to the next.

The material matters to me. It becomes an inherent dynamic part of each work, altering the meaning and overall experience. The textile, soft sculptures of late are connecting to the body, commenting on our threads of weblike connection, creating a physical tactile space and object that touches a memory-something familiar yet unfamiliar.
