Two-dimensionally, the top of this table has a loose, intuitive composition where my interventions just fit nicely within the flowing natural grain of the wood. Three-dimensionally, it demanded some balance to this softness: I gave it an elliptical form and reflected the axes of that ellipse into the base as strict, spiky legs. The modernism of the mid-20th Century meets the postmodernism of punk and the timeless humility of mending and hand craft.
