Where color and surface colide to shift perceptions.
Alissa Massey is a Los Angeles based visual artist. Her work includes large-scale paintings, installations and artists books that are explorations of materiality and surface that shift ones perception of reality through mostly monochromatic surfaces. Serious material play is at the root of her practice along with a deep investigation of color as material. Her work explores the complexities of vision, perception, and the real while providing all the clues on the surface.
Her work began in representational painting and has grown into abstraction. She continues to come back to her representational painting continuing to bring in moments of her skill set alongside her mostly monochromatic abstract work.
Massey earned her BFA in General Fine Art at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, MD in 2009 and her Masters in Fine Art at ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena, CA in 2021. Her work has been included in shows around the world in Italy and South Korea, along with shows in the United States in Baltimore, New York, Santa Barbara County and Los Angeles.
She lives and works in Los Angeles, CA.
