This unique painting was made by using traditional water gilding as well as oil gilding methods. Various shades of precious gold leaf as well as tarnishing silver leaf was applied on gessoed panel. In addition a cloth technique was used in this piece to create three dimensionality in the dress area. lilies and leaves.
Hardware for instant hanging on a wall has been added. This painting can also be framed.

Artworks and sculptures in precious gold and silver leaf

Janine Lambers is a German artist working from her studio in Beacon, NY.
Trained under the auspices of the German Guild Academy she graduated as a gilder and during the course of her career developed into an artist.
With a deep reverence and understanding of her craft she started to create her art. Over the years Lambers has exhibited her work on occasion but mostly works on commissions such as an 18ft gilded wall mural for a private super yacht and triptychs to national and international clientele.

Artist statement:

Nature is a constant inspiration. Nature encompasses everything.
Everything in this universe is constantly changing. Everything is impermanent.
Everything is consciousness. Everything is vibration.
Nothing is solid.

In my work I challenge my concept of solidity and explore the factor of impermanence. What I perceive to have a solid core or an identifiable form changes with closer inspection. What I see as a solid mass has merely a higher density. This density varies and opens up to where boundaries interweave and connect – where the different forms obscure into one another. 

The factor of impermanence is shown through the choice of different karat gold and silver leaf. The more pure the gold leaf the less it will change its color, the more silver content in it the more it will darken and tarnish over time. Gold symbolizes purity and eternity. Some of my works are deliberately left unvarnished to allow the impermanent, decaying aspect of impermanence show its true nature.
