This piece of wood wall art is featuring the spectacular grain of "Zebrawood". These squares have been cut to different depths and reset in place to show off the vertical grain, then finished with a varnish. The frame is made of oak painted black, to let the interior art wood shine.
This piece really has an African feel, it reminds me of the tall grasses found in the region where plenty of zebras are found, hence the name "Serengeti". There is something really engaging and inviting about exotic wood like this, it is primal, natural, warm. I could stand in front of this piece for a long time.
