Sea Witch - Drawn to the moodiness of the ocean and the often jarring juxtaposition of life and death, so clearly in view on the shoreline, Aurore has sought to incorporate these into a weaving. Deep, moody blues and greens lie alongside the bright limes, chartreuses and reds of ocean life, representing the bounty of life to be found in the ocean. In jarring contrast there are exposed sections of warp, the weave’s backbone, representing the abundance of skeletons and natural detritus to be found both in the oceans depths and washed up along the shoreline, becoming a beachcombers treasure.
This woven wall hanging has been created using a variety of natural fibres, including wool, cotton, bamboo, cotton, raffia, twine, merino, silk, ribbon, brass beads and hand spun art yarn by Aurore. The fibres and colours are blended together and the result is a textured statement hanging that begs to be touched. The piece is mounted on a piece of foraged wood, decorated with gold foil.
