Set of 3 nesting bowls in organic shape.
Hand-build from stoneware. Matte black graze on the interior and black underglaze exterior. Organic shapes and folds are highlighted with 22K gold luster. Food safe. Hand wash recommended.
Each one is unique. Largest bowl approximately 6" diameter x 4" tall

Clay is a dirty business

Coral reefs have fascinated and inspired me all my life. They are invaluable to our planet and offer the greatest biodiversity of any marine ecosystem.

But rising temperatures and pollution endangers these spectacular creatures.

In my work I try to interpret or mirror their forms, as well as to draw attention to treats corals facing.

In the making of my work, I employ a whole range of clay working techniques, including throwing, altering, pressing, slabbing and coil building. I also impress, pierce, or apply clay and sometimes add other materials to the clay. Texture is vitally important to me in making my own personal interpretations of the amazing natural world. All the pieces are fired two or three times.

The first firing (biscuit) is to convert the clay to ceramic. This firing is to 1850 degrees, after which I might apply glazes, colors, or metal oxides. These may be dipped, poured, or sponged, brushed and wiped or sprayed. Sometimes I leave the porcelain bare to speak for itself.

The pieces are then subjected to their second firing, which converts them into strong, durable, permanent forms. Second fire can be in the electric kiln, gas or traditional wood kiln, heating pieces up to 2400 degrees. Kiln used for the second fire affects the look and feel of the ceramic.

Some pieces receive a royal treatment of gold application and additional fire.
