Resin Pond Floor Mural
$ On Inquiry
This mural was a commission for a sunken living room/reading nook in an office. The lady who owns the office is really fun and wanted to reflect her whimsical personality in her office space. One of the first reasons we thought about putting something on the floor was because there was a discolouration in a section where the floor had been levelled for the built in shelving unit. At first we were talking about just painting a small pond over the discoloured area but the whole built in wooden step area surrounding the sunken room leant itself perfectly for an area to sit around a larger pond. It may have been the most technical mural I've done yet as there were a lot of things that needed to be taken into consideration for this area to still be functional and not wear too much under people's feet. I also really wanted it to feel as though it was actually water. I looked into a lot of options but finally came to the conclusion that floor resin was going to be the most hard wearing and have the most glossy finish. I had never used resin before so this was a very ambitious learning experience. After doing lots of research I decided to give it a go. I left the stepping stones and lilypads/flowers matt except for a few water droplets and a frog I had painted onto them. I then used a hardwearing matt driveway sealer to protect the matt areas.
It was quite a process but something that I'm really proud of and now something I know I can recreate in the future.
