This live edge Rain Tree table sports a vivid grain pattern that make it a standout in any room. We support this table with a Rain Tree base made from the same tree. The base keeps the legs in the center of the table and allows for more flexible seating at the table ends. (We make a wide variety of legs and bases and can provide alternative styles.) As the table is live-edge the widths vary along its length, from 38 inches (99 cms) at one end and 48 inches (122 cms) at the other.

All of our woodwork is made from conserved wood, in this case from a road widening project. We like to use Rain Tree for many projects as they grow widely in Thailand. The wood has about the same hardness as walnut. The key issue with Rain Tree is that it must be kiln dried, and we bring down the moisture levels carefully in our own kilns.

We follow that by planing and sanding the wood smooth. We rout metal C-channels into the table bottom to ensure it will stay flat. We use threaded metal inserts for attaching the legs to the table bottom. This makes it easy to remove and reinstall them over the years. We finish with eco-friendly oil that is both food contact safe and emission free, while ensuring easy-long term upkeep of the table.

Crafted live edge tables, custom woodworking

Power Woodwork is a group of veteran Thai and Canadian woodworkers and artisans who carefully craft bespoke furniture from recycled hardwoods for both homes and commercial settings. From our workshop in Thailand we build live edge tables along with custom furniture and ship it worldwide.

Our woodworkers bring years of experience working with leading furniture makers. We are not a factory, instead slowing down to create unique pieces. We work with architects to craft all the wood furniture in a house, from tables to cabinets, kitchen islands, flooring, to front-entrance doors. We don’t cut trees, instead searching out and acquiring a large stock of legacy hardwoods often stored for decades.

Power Woodwork is a business is a partnership between Brian Power, a long-time woodworker in Asia, and TMR International Co. Ltd., which has been building wood products such as flooring and doors near Bangkok for more than 30 years.

When we take on a project, we consider ourselves both imaginative artisans who show off the beauty of wood and hard-headed engineers who ensure the wood will remain stable with a finish that will keep through years of use.

As engineers, we own commercial kilns that dry wood for many furniture factories in Thailand. All wood for our products goes through those kilns so it can fit dryer climates if exported. We fit metal bracing into our tables as added insurance to ensure they remain flat. We avoid film finishes, instead turning to oils and waxes that create a beautiful luster with easy maintenance for years to come.

As artisans, we show off the beauty of wood. Building a table of legacy Thai rosewood, we celebrated its beauty by filling cracks on the tabletop with gold leaf. We collaborate with artists, both Thai and international, providing them with interesting wood pieces that become imaginative creations.
