Pinch by pinch, I create contemporary ceramics
Hand building is my process. When I create a piece for functional use or as sculpture, my intention is conjure life energy and movement through organic forms and weathered surfaces. Vessels are bulbous, ripe with possibility and invite holding. Surfaces rely on undulating hand pinched texture and softly layered glazes to suggest fluidity and fragility. Quiet, polished wares catch the light in unexpected moments. I moved to Orcas Island in the Pacific Northwest to raise a young family in 2012 and started my full time ceramic practice in 2014. In my everyday life, what resonates is the melding of art and ecology and I am driven to create work that remind us of our need for the natural world.
