My Pond Lily Leaf Dessert Dish is the perfect addition to your dining set or dinner party. These dishes were used by Executive Head Chef, Niall Keating, on the ‘Great British Menu‘ on BBC2 in 2020 with his chocolate frog dessert entry. As you can see from the images, they set off your signature desserts perfectly and will certainly make a statement!

Each one is handmade using the impression from a real pond lily leaf from the University of Bristol Botanic Garden and decorated with a beautiful authentic green glaze.

Making Process
Firstly, I use a ‘Nymphaea lotus (Egyptian blue lotus)‘ leaf to create the impression in clay and then cut around the pond lily shape allowing for extra clay margin at the edges. I then mould and tease the clay in an upward motion, using water, to create a fluted fine rim. This brings an authentic quality to the dish, also reminiscent of the ‘Victoria Amazonica‘ leaves – I used a little artistic license to create a hybrid of the two types!

My Pond Lily Leaf Dessert Dishes are the perfect way to make a lasting impression at dinner parties, especially when combined with complimentary Pond Lily Leaf Dinner Plates, Side Plates or even a Cake Stand in the same design.

I use stoneware clay fired to 1260 degrees, making each dish durable for functional purposes. All glazes are dishwasher and food safe. However please read the additional care instructions below.

Product Details
Dimensions: typically 20 x 20 cm diameter with a rim depth of approximately 2 cm.

Glaze Variation: please be aware, due to the handmade and unique element of each piece made, there will be slight variations in glaze colour and texture. Some items may be more olive green and some may have a more mint green tint. There may also be areas of rustic brown and charcoal grey breaking through in some areas where the leaf veins are more prominent. These colours are indicative of the variations you find in the real pond lily leaves and in any natural leaf formation.

Care
Please treat as a bone china plate. Hand wash in order to retain the glossy finish of the overall glaze. This will also help to retain the integrity of the edges.

Dispatch
In stock, ready made items will be dispatched within 3 days of order confirmation.

Please get in touch with me if you would like a bespoke set made to different measurements (3-4 weeks delivery).

Price is for one pond lily leaf dish.

Ceramics Inspired By Nature

Hi, Welcome to 'Ceramics Inspired By Nature' I make unique ceramics using the impression from real leaves. Each piece is individually handmade with love and healing intention. I make leaf tableware, wall art, vases and porcelain leaf jewellery and also accept commissions of any kind. You can even send me your own leaves and I will create something very special for you.

I first qualified in a Ba (Hons) ceramics from Bristol Bowerashton in 1995 under the guidance of Mo Jupp, Walter Keeler and Nick Homoky. This was a rich and immersive learning experience with three renowned potters as my tutors. In later years, I taught ceramics part-time at Clifton High School, running clay clubs for the junior and senior pupils. Although this was a rewarding experience, I decided to leave teaching to then focus my attention on becoming a professional ceramic artist in 2013 and blend my love of ceramics with the healing arts and nature.

Today, I sell my ceramics at local and national shows such as 'Celebrating Ceramics', Craft in Focus and also local art trails in Bristol and North Somerset. I also sell my work at select galleries in the South West such as the A2 Gallery in Wells and on select online platforms such as www.jewelstreet.com.

My ceramics has been aired on national TV in the UK on the 'Great British Menu' and used by Executive Head Chef Niall Keating for his 'chocolate frogs dessert' in 2020. My creative process using clay and leaves, has also been shown on ITV on the 'Love Your Weekend' show hosted by Alan Titchmarsh.
