"Bold splashes of color, layers of texture, various mediums, and the definition – and absence of – shapes and spaces are hallmarks of Erin Donahue Tice’s work."

Bold splashes of color, layers of texture, various mediums, and the definition – and absence of – shapes and spaces are hallmarks of Erin Donahue Tice’s work. From far away, her canvases appear to have sharp lines, yet upon closer inspection, the viewer discovers delicate marks and subtle shadows that gives each piece interest. There is almost always an undercurrent of both black and white within Erin’s pieces, which offers balance amid a mostly colorful visual experience. And every now and then, color is stripped completely from her pieces to offer a stripped-down neutral palette and sense of calmness.

Erin’s medium of choice is acrylics, but she almost always layers on a variety of supplies from oil pastels to charcoal to texturized mediums to even paper.

Erin draws much of her inspiration from her “happy place,” the East End of Long Island, where she has spent her summers for the past ten years. The sights, smells, sounds are tastes are re-interpreted into abstract works that remind her of days and nights in this magnificent part of the United States.

A self-taught artist, Erin launched her art career in 2018 following a 12-year career in corporate PR for firms in Chicago and New York City. She started painting after her second son was born as both a creative and therapeutic outlet. Her work can now be found in collections across the country, from coast to coast. She is represented by galleries in Texas and Alabama and has been commissioned to create bespoke works for both interior designers and clients directly. She resides in Austin, TX with her husband Bill and their three little boys, William, George and Andrew.
