48x36x1.5” Mixed media on canvas.
Ophelia gave the king fennel, knowing how he loved flattery, but it was also meant as a backhanded jab that he was an foolish adulterer. “Sow fennel, sow sorrow” is said because once you pick fennel, it wilts very quickly.
As part of my Mantra series, here I am repurposing the symbolism to stand as a reminder to not care what people think. I believe we all waste much too much time in our lives, foolishly caring what people think. But the reality is that there are only two opinions that matter: the 8 year old you and the 80 year old you.
The star of the show is the abstraction of the fennel flower, made with Caran D’ache Neopastels. Additional materials include Montana Water based spray paint, Golden, Nova and Lukas Acrylic Paints, China markers, Gelli Plate prints, and sgraffito to create a richly layered abstract painting on 1.5” deep gallery wrapped canvas in a palette of Paris Green, Fern green, neutral grays, arctic blue and tinted neon orange.
The piece can be shipped free in USA, un-stretched and rolled in a tube (when it arrives, you can have it restretched at your local frame shop). If you would like the piece to ship stretched, it will have to be created and quoted based off your unique location.
BOX shipping flat rates for small, med, and large up to 36x48
$25 - 2lbs - anything smaller than 20x30
$50 - 5lbs - anything smaller than 24x36
$75 - 7lbs - anything smaller than 36x48
Any oversized stretched painting over 36x48 needs to be created and quoted on a case-by-case basis, by size, and location.
