Painting Abstractions from Nature in Oil on Canvas
Looking deeply, feeling the fresh air and sunshine, my work expresses feelings of being alive, of growing up, becoming older, appreciation for all things in front of us and all the memories that were before. My inspiration includes nature, gardens of flowers and vegetables, natural light, atmosphere, landscape, local farmlands with surrounding buildings.
Recent mixed media work expands my storytelling through the use of mediums, process, gestural influences, antique journals combined with textures from hand-made Japanese papers. Thoughtful layers are created that speak and leave an imaginative edge for art appreciators to insert their unique stories into the work. To bring the entire story together with color, I create the feeling of motion using oil sticks, India ink, carbon, ink washes, watercolor and oil pastels.
My work is about creating a story that others can feel and experience personally.
