The loop form featured in this work symbolizes humans. I think of family trees and that the traditional branching is often insufficient in articulating how a family 'grows'. I tend to think of a family as a haphazard construction with lots of mending and tearing. The title ('mother' - shortened from 'the mothers') is found in the work, from an old book page. This piece reflects on how the family structure seems to spring from the mother, the matriarch of a family, and her sphere of influence. Other materials in this piece include jean fabric, the inner spine material of an old book, and monotypes.
