The never failing appeal of a map, any map, keeps bringing me back to painting my personal version of a map, it’s something I have done off and on for a number of years. I like the way maps suggest a view of a locale, or even the entire earth with all its continents. One looks at a map and can imagine wandering through the area that is depicted knowing all along that the map is not even close to reality—but still we believe. I hope these pieces of mine evoke that feeling.

Painting is on a finished wood panel, no additional framing is needed.

Obsessed by Patterns

My work reflects my passion for patterns as well as my attraction to chance (I have several sets of dice that I use when I want to take a undirected course).

Sandpaper is an essential material for me and I use it extensively as my work depends on many layers of media some of which are removed by sanding. For this reason most of my work is on wood panel.

I have a general idea of my painting before I start but any sketching I do ends up being part of the finished product. I'll often paint and repaint the same image (sanding in between layers) seeing if these iterations come up with a different look. Any traces of earlier applications are an integral part of each piece.
