About: Sensational piece is named after one of my favorite cities in the world. When I roamed Madrid for the week and a half I was there I couldn't help but notice the big city feel and beautiful colors - colors in the streets, colors in the sky when the sun was setting, the lights in the night sky when we went out for paella, colors in the sangria and the notorious Gin and Tonics in those gorgeous balloon glasses. This piece, to me, symbolizes life; a happy, cheerful, joyous, and colorful life. This piece has that raw and timeless essence that these rugs from this specific village embody, but given the array of colors, I couldn't help but think of the Mandator outfits, the colorful art at the art museums we visited, and the colorful and beautiful people of all of Spain. I stayed 5 minutes from Sol, the main square, and a 20-minute walk led us to this gorgeous park with statues and lush green trees and grass - that's what the unusual green in this rug reminded me of. It's not always common to have parks and spans of grassy areas near huge cities, but I will never forget sitting with friends and taking it all in; I feel that serenity in this rug. That break from the noise, that recess for the eyes, that sense of life but a calmness to it. Maybe it's the old dyes that have softened a bit over time that strike that perfect balance of rich bold colors, yet not obnoxiously loud. Also, the size of this rug is lovely - small but powerful. That reminds me of the coffee I ordered the first time I ordered coffee at a café.. "I'll take your largest coffee please, black with no cream or sugar". They gave me a tiny cup and I thought they made a mistake... "No, no, I didn't order an espresso, I ordered a large coffee or a large Americano", and my friend said, yes this is large. I looked at it and thought this was a joke - but then I took a sip and realized it's about quality and strength, not quantity. That theme was true in their tapas as well, and also the small snacks we enjoyed throughout. The only time quantity surpassed quality was the several days we drank the whole day - literally all day long - beers for lunch, drinks for happy hour, drinks with our dinner, drinks going out, coming home so late, and even a nightcap before bed. I really channeled my inner Ernest Hemmingway during that trip, how fitting, for I can now see Hemmingway's infatuation with Spain. ANYWAY - I digress lol, back to the rug. This piece has this fantastic charcoal black that really anchors the rug with pops of tangerine, an incredibly handsome red, beautiful French blue corners, salmon, soft minty sky blue, and more. The iconic medallion design with arabesque vines flowing throughout adds this really nice artistic touch and movement to the piece. The weave is incredible, and the quality is superb - this is a powerhouse piece - you will LOVE it (and you will also LOVE Spain if you haven't been!) :)

This rug is one-of-a-kind, the only one available.

Because of the nature and age of these older/antique handmade pieces, irregularities and age-related wear are likely to exist and are not considered defects.

Any questions about this rug? Don't hesitate to reach out!

We always recommend a high-quality custom-cut pad for any and all rugs; these pads are made for hand-knotted rugs. They create a body and support the knots of the rug, as well as prevent it from slipping and sliding.

A note from us to you: Buying a rug is special; it's not just you finding the rug, but also the rug finding you. Think about the many coincidences that have to occur for you to find the rug of your dreams. Our rugs are woven by nomads in the villages and remote mountainous regions of the major rug weaving districts across the world. All of our rugs are genuinely old and one-of-a-kind. Like anything old and unique, they are filled with character, soul, and story. The story of a rug is something we think about a lot; who was the weaver(s)? Did they weave it for personal use, commerce, to gift, or trade? Who was the second owner, and the third!? Sometimes the little motifs and symbols in rugs can help tell the story, but we will never truly know - there's something beautiful about that. Alas, our joy is to curate these incredible pieces that speak to us, and to pass them along to their new owners to be enjoyed and cherished for many years to come; both continuing to add to the story of the rug, and to the story of the new owners.
