My drawings and paintings develop organically over time, often emanating from experience within a particular place. Various bodies of work connect and reference other periods of within my work, via expression, color and tactility. My process is a search to find alchemy in the mix between elemental marks: A paint stroke, gesture, pour or splash and how these layer and transition to the pictorial — yet remain painted moments. As I work, I hope to discover something that leaps beyond my opening questions, something that I recognize and that resonates, while leaving room to wonder.

Molly Herman was born in Washington, D.C. and grew up in Alexandria, VA. She studied at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA and the School Of Visual Arts in New York City.

Ms. Herman has exhibited widely and her work is in many important collections including that of Larry Poons and Paula DeLuccia, George Faber, Counsel General of Luxembourg; Intuit Inc., Mountain View, CA.; Microworld Co., Tokyo, Japan; Kansas City University, and Capitol One Headquarters, Washington, D.C. among others. Additionally, her paintings received feature credit in Academy Award winning movie, Still Alice.
