Dynamic and directional. The aperture in the center of this piece makes it the most conscious of its third dimension, of the Long Shadow Series so far. It exposes and acknowledges the wall the way an actor breaks the "fourth wall" when they look into the camera.
The Long Shadow Series is a deep exploration of pattern, color, transparency, distortion, and interruption. The name comes from the way the pattern is stretched or distorted when I mount the piece on my lathe and carve the curves. The best part is the reality that creeps into the process here and there. This piece has several small cracks in the epoxy, due to heat that built up in the casting process, just at the limits of the material's ability. I filled the cracks as they appeared, but they are still a feature near the center of the piece.
