Imbued with creativity, wisdom and love, our Itotia cushion is designed to the finest detail and finished to the highest quality. From the zig zag blanket stitches which tie together the width of the fabric, to the continuous hand woven stripe which flows through to the back of the cushion. Each cushion is finished off with hand twisted ties which add extra detail and creativity, this timeless design is ideal for the traditional home.

Each cushion is deeply rooted in spiritual belief and cosmology. Mayan communities use crosses and diamonds to reflect the interconnectedness of the four cardinal directions and their relationship to the natural world. This cushion was created in harmony and balance between these directions, which were believed to be essential for the proper functioning of the universe.

Each cushion is finished with hand twisted ties which elevate the design creating the most luxurious of cushions.

Ethical homeware with soul

Former Fashion Buyer, Angharad nurtured and founded Routes Interiors after feeling a complete sense of disconnection to the production of textiles. Having worked within the fashion industry for ten years, specialising in a move towards more sustainable production, Angharad decided to take a break from her career so that she could realign to her values. Travelling to Mexico and Guatemala to find a sense of balance and to reignite her passion for textiles, she visited many workshops and collectives where she deepened her connection to the process and the people weaving products into existence. Inspired to nurture and co-create with craft across the world, Routes was born.

‘Routes’ represents the journey each of our handcrafted, earth-born products has been on. From the first seed which bloomed to the marrying of different plants to create colour, to each and every set of hands who have poured their passion and love into creating a product to be loved and cherished forever.

Routes offers timeless artisan textiles through the hands of indigenous skilled women living in Chiapas, Mexico. Routes celebrates and values traditional craftsmanship, works in alignment with mother earth and nurtures a deeper sense of connection between customers and the products we surround ourselves with in the home.

Working in collaboration with the United Nations in 2023 to empower female artisans in Chiapas, the brand is recognised for creating unique products that reflect diversity, indigenous history and drive impact amongst communities.
