Inspired by concepts related to queer ecology, this series explores the inherent power within trees and shoe fashion—an homage to the queer nature and grandeur of both subjects. Each piece is named after the tree it centers. These species exist along the west coast of north America in California, Washington, and British Columbia—places I have lived and laid roots in. Please feel welcome to reach out for more info about this series, Natural Queens, as there is indeed more!
These large graphite and charcoal drawings are framed in maple (hardwood) frames with a black finish. The matte, plexiglass and backing are all gallery-grade products, intended to protect each piece from UV-discoloration and fading over time. 24" x 35.3" unframed, 28" x 40.875" framed. Please note that these drawings are grayscale on paper, so the discoloration is due to variance in cameras used to photograph works--all works are identical in color and size.
