The Kintsugi Pendant is handcrafted with the finest Australian porcelain clays which deliver luminous and ethereal translucency. This light has a dual mode of existence as a work of art and functional design. This light has individualised surface variations and colours akin to landscape topography.
This light has a groundbreaking cordless, flex free design. The light hangs purely by suspension wire, which creates a minimalist, streamlined aesthetic.
The porcelain clay used in this lighting collection contains micro-fine iron free bentonite with the brightest firing kaolins, resulting in a silky smooth body with a glossy finish that is translucent. In firing reduction it is a unique blue/white colour, which enables added stains to appear particularly vibrant in contrast.
Every part of the making process meets the standard for circular economy, where clay is recycled and waste and energy outputs minimised. The technique of making this light involves pouring liquid clay onto a plaster slab. Slip is then poured layer by layer onto the slab, then the sheets are peeled away. The sheets are hand wet/dry sanded, clear glazed and fired twice.
A section of this light has been repaired with Kintsugi gold leaf technique. The scars and cracks of the broken ceramic become the focus, transforming this light into one of a kind exquisite work of art, where the broken ceramic becomes entirely unique as glowing rivulets of gold.
The purchase of this light comes with two Australian made energy efficient LEDs with a 50,000 hour lifespan and instructions for easy ceiling instal by a professional electrician.
