This beautiful lighting fixture is designed in the style of traditional Japanese lanterns with a roof rafter feature of a Japanese shrine.
Painstakingly crafted, the body of the lantern is mortised and tenoned plain-sawn Red Oak. The side panels are paper thin quarter-sawn Spanish Oak set in a Spalted Oak frame which float in the lantern body, tied with handmade jute stringing.
The top light panel in the Red Oak roof is handmade Japanese paper (Washi)
The lantern is finished with 5 coats of satin lacquer.
This lantern will cast a warm inviting glow using just a single 110 volt LED light bulb that lasts up to 25 years. (The bulb is accessible through a hatch in the bottom of the lantern.)
Dimensions are roughly 10.75"x 10.75" wide x 12" high.
I proudly make the lanterns one at a time, in my one person wood shop from the finest materials available.
