One of two large analog collages Stephen Sheffield made for The Charles Hotel in Cambridge Massachusetts. (Circa 1998) The rough theme is a history of Harvard University and the base image is a group portrait of the staff of the Harvard Crimson newspaper. If you look closely you will see Theodore Roosevelt in the cross of 4 photographs towards the center of the piece. This piece is 120”x56” and comprised of 84 sheets of photographic paper that have been toned and distressed and mounted on board. I then placed off-register printed sheets of paper and transparent sheets of kodalith that had the same or contrasting images. These images were all hand printed in my darkroom and the largest images were exposed on the wall of my studio with the enlarger placed on its side and moved far back from the wall like a projector.
