Though a modernist approach, this form was inspired by the wings of black swallowtails.

While the form may repeat, each vessel is unique as various slabs of black clay are hand pressed into a plaster mold and joined together. As part of my design aesthetic, the surface of each vessel may include small imperfections, crevices and slight textures. These will not impact the structure or stability of the piece, it's solely part of the surface.

Beverly Morrison (Los Angeles, California) is an American artist specializing in sculptural ceramics. She holds a B.A. in Studio Arts with an emphasis in sculpture from California State University of Long Beach and has studied under acclaimed artists such as Peter King, Stan Bitters, and Gwen Heeney.
Beverly’s passion for making began in childhood, nurtured by her parents' blend of artistic creativity and analytical thinking. Her mother’s lessons in observation laid the groundwork for a lifelong practice of studying the intricate details, patterns, and connections within the natural world. This enduring fascination became the foundation of her artistic expression, where nature serves as both subject and collaborator.

Her aesthetic sensibilities are shaped by the minimalist power of Barbara Hepworth and Henry Moore, the raw textures of Rodin and Giacometti, and the emotional resonance of Bernini. These influences, combined with her late but inevitable love affair with clay, guide her quest to create works that evoke tactile and emotional connections.

For Beverly, clay embodies vitality and voice. Inspired by natural forms and rhythms, she crafts sculptural pieces that invite contemplation and a sense of harmony, encouraging a dialogue between the observer and the work.
