Creativity sparks creativity. Inspired by music, the Good Day chaise lounge is an experiential chair designed to invoke a sense of solitude and serenity. The contrast between the thin profile of the chair suspended under heavier legs creates a sense of lightness and floating. In the same way artists compliment each other, the contrasting forms of the chair create a commanding yet elegant presence.
Every part of the chaise lounge was simplified to enhance the overall form of the chair and emphasize the floating aspect. The cast aluminum seat requires an internal steel structural frame in the aluminum casting to carry the load and maintain strength during various loading conditions. The steel frame allows for the thin aluminum profile at the edge of the chair. The seat is cast as a single aluminum casting that requires 4 people to roll the tool during casting. The legs are cast as 3 pieces and welded together in a fixture to create perfectly level legs. The cast aluminum legs and frame can be painted complimentary colors or polished for a more modern look.
To achieve clean lines in the leather pads where stitching doesn’t distract from the form, leather is wet formed in molds then glued to the pads for a clean, stitch free look. Carbon fiber is used as a backer for the pads to maintain the shape of the leather and conceal the magnets used to keep the pads in place. The leather pads come in a multitude of Italian leather colors and can be easily changed.
