a mistake.
The blooop series came to be from the pressure I felt to make "serious work." These forms emerge from my time in the studio as I combine wheel thrown parts. They are playful, loud and unapologetic. After being fired in the kiln, this small sculpture is covered in rubber, creating the "oh please touch me" surface. Signed on the bottom. 5.5" in height. Completely handmade with no molds used in the process.

Born in Ukraine, Alina Hayes grew up in New York City, New York. The daughter of a jeweler and a musician, and the granddaughter of a potter and a surgeon, Hayes views hand-work as a part of her heritage. She began her studies at the School of Visual Arts before relocating to Los Angeles in 2005, where she completed both her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts (emphasis in Ceramics) degrees at California State University, Northridge. Hayes currently makes work in her Las Vegas studio.
