"Flecks of Whidbey." My Enchantments collection was painted in late summer of 2022 in Seattle, Washington. It was a summer that got started later than usual, and by the end of it, we were clouded with wildfire smoke.
This heavily influenced this collection: "Enchantments" was originally designed to capture magic, and light. As this collection grew, the wildfires obscured our sunsets and literally made it harder to see, to breathe. Smoke, in a sense, can also be enchanting, painting the skies a deep orange in the later summer haze.
"Flecks of Whidbey" was inspired by a weekend trip to Whidbey Island, part of the San Juan islands here in Washington State. The composition is inspired by the tiny dots of islands, the smoothness of the Sound, and the brightness of summer that can be found even in the middle of wildfire season. Real gold leaf was used in this painting.
I hope this brings the joys of summer to your home.
Flecks of Whidbey is an original abstract painting. Created with dozens of layers of transparent paint to form a deeply textured composition, this piece is inspired by the concept of enchantments and the colors of late summer. A one-of-a-kind original from my second collection.
This piece is 30x30 inches.
