At first glance, the Event Horizon Mirror seems like an ordinary looking glass. Its left-hand knob illuminates an outer vanity ring, allowing one to view their reflection. Turning its right-hand knob, however, causes all reflectivity to vanish, revealing fiery undulations reminiscent of a massive black hole. Activating the piece results in a mesmerizing, consuming phenomenon that causes one’s identity and reflection to be lost and replaced by an endless abyss. This 3D-dimensional illuminated artwork is inspired by images captured only last year of black hole M87 by the Event Horizon Telescope. This “telescope”, which is a network of globally synchronized observatories, is exclusively working towards understanding all things associated with black holes. As we continue to unpack black holes to better understand the universe, perhaps we will learn a little more about our own essence.

Studio S II (ess-TOO) furniture and interior design studio that expresses distinctive style through cinematic, transporting products and environments.

Studio S II was cofounded by longtime best friends and collaborators, Erica Sellers and Jeremy Silberberg. The two met while pursuing their undergraduate degrees at RISD. In the summer of 2020, Erica and Jeremy were exploring what would soon become the site of their first gut-renovation. Knowing they shared the same vision, they left their jobs to start Studio S II. S II's designs incorporate classic and futuristic materials and techniques to conjure a timelessness inspired by film and science fiction.
