Title: Empty Spaces
Location: Midland, South Dakota
Series of 25
Archival pigment giclee print on Epson Baryta Fine Art Paper.
I often get out in the country and meander down remote country roads. Often I get lost but on this particular day I came upon this aged, weather-beaten two-story house.
A path, likely once well-trodden but now overgrown, leads to the house. An expanse of tall grasses and wildflowers, which sway gently and have encroached upon the dwelling—a testament to the power of nature reclaiming human spaces.
The sky, rendered with dramatic and voluminous cloud formations, looms overhead, with a palette of stormy grays, deep blues, and soft purples, suggesting an atmospheric mood of melancholy or foreboding.
Overall, the artwork evokes emotional responses through its theme of dilapidation and the passage of time, along with a certain nostalgia or reflection upon what might have once been. The digital painting style, depicting nuanced textures and a careful interplay of light and shadow, offers a rich visual narrative of both beauty and desolation within the rural landscape.
