"Tanit” in Natural is a hand-crafted candlestick from the village of Sejnane, a town located in the hills of northern Tunisia. With it’s rich satin finish, obtained by smoothing the object repeatedly with shellfish, and striking features, this sculpture is sure to be a conversation piece. Sejnane pottery is a 100% manual product process, leaving each object with a trace of humanity and history. The pottery is environmentally friendly, using only natural materials such as ochre clay, shellfish, and dried branches. The clay is first extracted and then cleansed of its impurities. It is then mixed with crushed pottery fragments, repurposing items that would have become waste, and finally fashioned by hand into a piece. The piece is them polished with shellfish, dried up outdoors, and painted with naturally-occurring pigments, such as those from white or red ochre clay. The pottery is then fired on dried branches with cow dung used as the combustible. Finally, each piece is decorated with lines, dots, and other embellishments either with ochre clay or mastic powder, from the Mediterranean-borne mastic shrub. "

MY HISTORY and MY MEDITERRANEAN UNIVERSE

The Mediterranean is Tunisia where I lived for 20 years. Tunisia is a great parenthesis in my life that has never been closed... Having made my career in the hotel industry, I crossed the country and admired the small craftsmen and women and their "know-how". It is this “know-how” that I would like to share with lovers of interior decoration.

I create and collaborate with artisans in different corners of the country. Together we create beautiful handcrafted throws, pretty baskets, hand-woven shawls, etc. For more than a year, I have been investing more in interior decoration and my offer has been extended to small furniture. In cypress wood, modeled pottery from Sejnane, rugs, lighting and currently I am thinking about creating other products to embellish your interiors. My new GRAMMÍ and ZIG ZAG collections in ceramics (tableware) and PAMPA (weaving and flooring) are already available. A few months ago, I developed my first “JANA S” clothing collection. S for “sustainability”. The durability of materials over time, the ancestral "know-how" of weaving that I imagined in my collections.

I wish you a great discovery of my Mediterranean universe.
