Nicole Neu (b. 1988) is a sculptor working and residing on The West Coast of The US. She earned a bachelor of art in photography and sculpture from Azusa Pacific University. Her practice is built out of a curiosity for natural earthen material such as flax, hemp, clay and earth pigments. Neu explores ideas of imperfection, impermanence, light and shadow, through humble materials and contrasting ridged and organic forms. While the material remains a large part of Neu’s informing inspiration there are references to landscape, topographical maps and movement ever present. Each piece involves a delicate balance of the artist intentionally molding material and allowing the material to lead, giving space for the final sculptures to have their own breath.
