Hi, I’m Fran Halpin, artist from Dublin Ireland

Captivated by creative work from a young age, I never let adversity get in my way as I carved a career for myself against all odds.

Growing up in Tallaght, for as long as I can remember I had my heart set on spending life tucked away in a studio brushing endless images onto canvas. I only ever wanted to be an artist. It always seemed like a dream but it never occurred to me to even try and get a job in an office or anywhere else. Focusing my inspiration on the connection between nature and family, I want my creative work to tell a story of how both concepts brings us back to childhood memories – by inviting the viewer to step away from their busy lives and experience a moment of calm.

These authentic representations ask the viewer to pause, step into a calm space and reconnect with childhood memories. My intention is to use fine art to create a sensorial and emotive connection with my audience.

By passing obstacles and roadblocks as a teenager and young adult, I caught a glimpse of my dream artist’s life when I opened the doors to my first solo exhibition in 2018. “I finally found the courage to paint for myself when I decided to throw away the rulebook and paint what I love.” Having gone straight from college to self-employment, I had had enough of creating for other people and realised I had the talent to make it on her own.

Since that showing two years ago, my career has gone from strength to strength. Successfully running two businesses, it’s safe to say I has come quite a long way from the school art room where it all began. Splitting my time across my mural business and personal paintings, I feel lucky that I get to paint anything I like and I actually get to make a living from this. It never ceases to amaze me.

Not one to slow down, the Irish artist is looking toward the future with her next project and release of her next collection. An inspiration to budding creatives everywhere, Fran quotes her mother when leaving us with her biggest piece of advice, “If it was easy everyone would do it!”
