The works were created by hand screen printing my drawings of butterflies and moths onto Japanese kozo paper using natural inks that I prepared from plants. Once the print is set, I hand cut the form and lacy holes. The paper looks delicate but is a strong resilient fibre - just like the subject.
Lepidoptera inherently go through a process of gestation that is aligned with time and the right conditions for hatching from their chrysalis. Once fully formed and their wings have gently, slowly unfolded, they are ready to fly, travel and grace meadows. This metaphor gives reassurance that there is a time for everything, a time for quiet, a time contemplation and a time for expansion and renewal!

Collection of 4 works framed without glass.
