Linen and cotton throw quilt inspired by the rugged mountains in West Texas, hung as a wall quilt/headboard.

Every time I drive south into Big Bend National Park, I’m overwhelmed by the beauty of the Chisos Mountains, a cluster of dramatic peaks that rise up from the Chihuahuan Desert. Until my first visit in 2010, I never knew there were mountains in Texas, let alone some of the most stunning I’ve ever seen. During that first trip I camped in Chisos Basin, a little campground nestled in a valley high up in the mountains surrounded by the tallest peaks.

The Chisos Quilt is inspired by that cozy feeling of being encircled by the mountains and the warm, dark colors of the volcanic rock that make up the Chisos Mountains.

Four sizes available:

Crib: 40” x 48”, perfect for a little one

Throw: 60” x 72”, great for snuggling on the couch

Queen: 90” x 96”, fits a full or queen size bed

King: 104” x 110”, fits a king size bed

Top: ivory linen cotton, linen cotton chambray with charcoal and terracotta cotton

Binding: gray yarn-dyed cotton/linen blend

Back: unbleached cotton

Batting: thick unbleached US-grown cotton

Machine pieced, quilted and bound

Care: Machine wash delicate in cold water with a gentle detergent. Tumble dry low or hang to dry.

Add a hanging sleeve to turn your quilt into a piece of wall art. The sleeve is made with the same fabric as the quilt back and lies flat when not hanging, so you can still use it as a quilt.

Vacilando is a design and production studio dedicated to making beautiful, useful objects while modernizing the tradition of American Craftsmanship.

Raised in Texas and London by two architect parents, Laura spent several years in New York City studying art history and painting before embarking on a year-long road trip adventure around the U.S. in 2013. Six years of traveling and two Airstream later, She now calls the Texas Hill Country home.

Completely self taught (with the help of the internet), Laura discovered the medium of textiles on the road and fell in love with the utility and potential of the craft. With a couple years of quilting under her belt and a dream of designing and making quilts all day, she launched Vacilando in February of 2015.

Endlessly eager to explore new places, wander through markets, and discover interesting colors and textures in nature, Laura draws inspiration from her travels and translates them into the modern minimalist designs that Vacilando is known for.
